From September 8th until November 16th, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will celebrate it’s centennial year with the Parkway 100. A variety of special events and exhibitions are planned to commemorate this historic piece of culture.
One of the main exhibitions of the Parkway 100 is "Winter Fountains for the Parkway" — a collection of five large, illuminated fountains with video projections that relate to the area’s museums and schools. Another featured exhibition is "Cai Guo-Qiang: Fireflies", which is an interactive piece of art that consists of 27 glowing, kinetic sculptures that come alive in the form of free pedicabs.
An entire spectrum of events are planned throughout the entire Parkway 100 celebration. Storytelling, community art projects, mural unveilings, planting days, and a concert series are all part of the fun. For anyone unfamiliar with the beauty and history of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the Parkway 100 will serve as an enlightening experience.
